Go back to the traditional windows messenger perhaps? I've been using it here ever since I installed XP, and it does all I need to do. Voice clips are nice I guess, but you can always use Skype or some other program for voice chatting. Yeah, I know, we shouldn't have to downgrade, blah blah blah, but for the time being, that's what you get. You can complain to Microsoft, but unless you pull off a major lawsuit, nothing will be done.

or upgrade and work with it. down grading won't always solve issues, it could cause some in the long run depending on what happens

No you don't have to downgrade at all. You may have a register issue, so you can call microsoft and they will do a tantem with you and repair the issue so that live works for you. Windows messenger works good as well, but doesn't have all the bells and other features. No need to sue help is available. Smile. When uninstalling it you must do it completely, and that means going to your programs in the hard drive as well, but if you're not easy with that method get the pros to simply fix you up. Also Live works beautifully with Jaws 10 and Window eyes 7 and perfectly with Jaws 11, so there you go. I have not tried it using 9, but will so I can write about that as well.
Peace.

You can always use Miranda.

i'd downgrade if i could, but, there is no windows messenger in vista...

i have still been able to sign in using messenger 8.5, and, the release of jaws i have is the one from march, the 30th of march, so it is an earlier release of jaws 10.

Miranda and bitlbee for the win, none of this upgrading and downgrading crap. Just update miranda, and don't have to worry about anything else.
